常州威雅首场校外周末室内音乐会取得成功

　　近期，常州威雅在校外成功举办了一场周末室内音乐会，整场音乐会受到学生和家长的一致好评，充分展示了威雅音乐家们的才华及学校对音乐教育的重视程度。3月13日星期六，常州威雅音乐部带领十二年级(G12)A Level选修音乐的学生和中学部最优秀的威雅音乐家们来到新北雅马哈音乐厅参加室内音乐会；当天特别为A Level选修音乐的学生设置了独奏表演环节，这次的表演成绩将占他们A Level音乐总成绩的30%。

　　On Saturday 13th March, the WASCZ Music Department took the Y13 A-level pupils along with a selection of our most advanced musicians to the Yamaha Concert Hall in Xinbei to take part in a Chamber Recital Concert. The concert showcased the musical talent of the school, as well as the Y13 pupils’ A-Level recitals, which contribute to 30% of their overall A-Level grade.

　　音乐会以时同学的一曲巴赫《前奏曲与赋格曲BWV847》拉开序幕；同时，她还演奏了莫扎特的《钢琴奏鸣曲》以及肖邦的《练习曲作品25号之2》；紧随其后的是李同学，她一共演奏了四篇动人的乐章，分别是弗雷的《求主垂怜》、安德鲁·劳埃德·韦伯的《盼你仍在》、《真爱永不消逝》和杰森·霍兰德的《命中注定》。短暂的幕间休息之后，裴同学以一曲约瑟夫·海顿的《降A奏鸣曲第一乐章》把观众带回到丰富的旋律中，并在她的弗朗西斯·普朗克的E小调钢琴小品《为法拉而做的主题》演奏中描绘了法国作曲家的丰富性。

　　In the first half, C. Shi gave stunning renditions of Bach’s Prelude and Fugue BWV847, Mozart’s Piano Sonata KV.333 and Chopin’s Étude op.25 no.2 on piano. This was followed by C. Li who gave a moving vocal performance of Fauré’s Pie Jesu along with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again and Love Never Dies, and finally Jason Howland’s Some Things Are Meant To Be. The intermission was ushered in by H. Pei who dazzled the audience with the finesse of Haydn’s Allegro moderato, 1st movement from Sonata in A flat, Hob. XVI:46 and captured the French richness of Poulenc in his Novelette in E minor, sur un theme de Manuel de Falla in her piano playing.

　　三位学生的演奏精彩绝伦，她们都即将进入全球知名音乐学府接受更加专业的音乐教育；时同学将赴北方皇家音乐学院钢琴专业深造，李同学将在曼彻斯特大学进修音乐，而裴同学将去往皇家威尔士音乐戏剧学院研习作曲。

　　All three of the pupils performed wonderfully, and have all been offered places to study music in higher education, with C. Shi set to study Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music, C. Li planning to read Music at Manchester University and H. Pei being offered a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to study Composition.

　　管弦乐队

　　接下来，来自低年级的优秀音乐家献上了他们的演奏，这是一场充分展现个人成就的庆祝活动！夏同学以一曲泰勒曼的《G小调幻想曲第一乐章》开启了下半场的演奏。随后，由第一小提琴手陶同学、第二小提琴手王同学、中提琴手孙同学和大提琴手丁同学组成的弦乐四重奏乐队和Philpott同学共同演奏了《海顿小号协奏曲第二乐章》。作为学校里最优秀的小号演奏家之一以及管弦乐队铜管乐部的重要成员，Philpott同学与弦乐四重奏的合作是一次非常特别的经历。

　　The second half saw some of our most advanced musicians from lower years performing and was a celebration of individual achievement. A. Xia started the half performing Telemann’s Vivace 1st movement from Fantasia in G minor. This was then followed by C. Philpott and the string quartet consisting of P. Tao on Violin 1, R. Wang on Violin 2, M. Sun on Viola and S. Ding on cello performing Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto – 2nd movement. As one of the best trumpet players in school and a key member of the brass section of orchestra C. Philpott’s performance with the string quartet was a truly special experience.

　　在之前一组表演结束之后，我们的钢琴家登上了舞台：周同学演奏了《肖邦的降D大调圆舞曲作品64号之1》，王同学演奏了《莫扎特C大调奏鸣曲第一乐章》，洪同学演奏了《贝多芬悲怆奏鸣曲第一乐章》，周同学演奏了《肖邦G小调玛祖卡作品67号之2》；此时，陈同学熟练的马林巴琴表演为优雅的氛围注入了生机，他为大家带来了一曲生动的来自米切尔·彼得斯的《雨后的金黄》；最终，整场音乐会以钢琴三重奏结束，单簧管手徐同学、大提琴手王同学、钢琴手包同学共同演奏了《贝多芬单簧管三重奏第一乐章》。

　　After this group performance several our pianists took to the stage: J. Zhou with Chopin’s Waltz in D flat op.64. No.1, K. Wang with Mozart’s 1st movement from Sonata in C major KV309, D. Hong with Beethoven’s  1st movement from Pathétique Sonata and E. Zhou with Chopin’s Mazurka in G minor Op.67 No.2. This was punctuated by a skilled marimba performance from E. Chen, playing Mitchell Peters’ Yellow After The Rain; the concert finally drawn to a close with the Piano Trio, consisting of E. Xu on clarinet, C. Wang on cello and B. Bao on piano performing Beethoven’s Clarinet Trio, Movement 1.

　　这场音乐会是常州威雅师生辛勤耕耘的最好体现。他们共同努力，合理地规划平衡了学术、运动及诸多课外活动和音乐的时间，并达到了如此卓越的水平。本次音乐会的演出机会面向在IGCSE和十一年级（G11）、A Level阶段选修音乐的学生开放，以此鼓励他们继续投入更多的时间练习；同时也向家长和部分教职员工开放。再次祝贺所有的演奏家们，感谢他们为我们带来了如此美妙的音乐之夜！非常期待能在即将到来的四月音乐会中再次听到他们的演奏！

　　The concert was a testament to the ardent work of the pupils and instrumental teachers at WASCZ, who balance their academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities with their music to practise and perform to such a superb level. The performance was opened to the IGCSE and Y12 A-Level Music pupils to serve as inspiration to continue to dedicate their time to practise, as well as to a number of the staff and parent body. Congratulations once again goes to all the performers for such a wonderful evening of exquisite music, and we look forward to hearing them perform again in our upcoming April concert, along with our other ensembles.
